After Game of Thrones' creators announced that the show would end after Season 8, HBO immediately initiated the search for ideas for a spinoff series. Yet, it turns out that the process involved several rejected pitches.
A report by The Hollywood Reporter reveals the details for some spinoff pitches that HBO once considered in the spinoff drive, as led by network chief content officer Casey Bloys. Eventually, five concepts based on George R. R. Martin's work were selected and moved into the development phase – a competitive approach that became informally known online as "The War of the Five Pitches."
